The Europa League final tonight will be a big game for so many reasons, but it could also have a big impact on one of this summer’s major transfer sagas.
If Manchester United get their hands on the trophy, they’ll also seal that all-important Champions League qualification for next season, which should then open the door to a higher calibre of player in the transfer market.
More specifically, it could be decisive in deciding the future of Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap, who is wanted by United and Chelsea.
That’s according to ESPN, who state that Chelsea could become the clear favourites to sign Delap if they are able to offer European football and the Red Devils are not.

Luckily, it seems MUFC do have other names in mind as potential targets up front as well, so it won’t be the end of the world if they miss out on Delap.
ESPN suggest the likes of Viktor Gyokeres could also be worth watching out for, but of course one imagines that Champions League football and a piece of silverware would always be helpful in convincing most players.
Delap also looks like an exciting young talent, so United and Chelsea will be eager to ensure they win the race for the 22-year-old while they still can.
Should Liam Delap join Man Utd or Chelsea?
Delap would surely be a regular starter at Old Trafford or Stamford Bridge, but which would be the best move for his career?
In truth, both United and Chelsea are a long way from where they used to be, with both teams going through transitional periods at the moment.

The Blues are surely closer, however, to actually making their project click, so perhaps they’d be the slightly better choice.
At the same time, though, there’s been so much chopping and changing of both players and managers under this ownership that perhaps even United could look like the more stable environment by comparison.
