Chelsea are interested in signing the Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi at the end of the season.
The 24-year-old has established himself as one of the finest defenders in the Premier League, and Chelsea are hoping to bring him back to the club this summer.
According to Mick Brown, Chelsea are expected to step up their efforts to sign the player once they have secured Champions League qualification for the next season. He has added that the Blues view him as one of their top targets.
Chelsea to accelerate move
He said to Football Insider: “I know Chelsea have been looking at him as one of their top targets at centre-back.
“Obviously, he came through their academy so they know him well.
“He would be a calming and stable influence which they haven’t currently got in their back line.
“So if they get into the Champions League, which is their main focus for now, I expect they’ll step up their efforts to bring him in.”
It remains to be seen whether they can agree on a reasonable deal with Crystal Palace. The Eagles were unwilling to sell him for a fee of around £70 million back in January, but his asking price is likely to come down now. He will enter the final 12 months of his contract this summer, and the Eagles will be under pressure to cash in on him. They will not want to lose a player of his quality on a free transfer.
