Newcastle United made a significant move in the summer transfer market by submitting a formal offer to sign Nottingham Forest winger Anthony Elanga, according to David Ornstein of The Athletic.
The Magpies tabled a bid in the region of £45 million for the Swedish international as they look to strengthen their attacking options ahead of the new Premier League season.
However, Nottingham Forest swiftly rejected the proposal, making it clear that they have no intention of parting ways with Elanga.
The club did not issue a counter-offer or show any willingness to entertain discussions, underscoring their commitment to retain their player.
Anthony Elanga has impressed Newcastle United
Elanga has enjoyed a resurgence at the City Ground. The 23-year-old scored six goals and provided 12 assists last season in a highly successful individual season for Forest.
His stock has risen considerably, drawing attention from several top Premier League sides, including Newcastle.
Newcastle’s recruitment team had identified him as a target who could add depth, competition, and quality in the final third.
But with Forest shutting the door on a potential transfer, the Magpies now face a decision: whether to go back again with another offer or pursue other targets in the market.
