Tottenham have held initial talks over a potential transfer move for Brentford striker Yoane Wissa, who would likely cost around £50m.

Well-placed sources with links to the agents industry have confirmed to CaughtOffside that there is genuine and concrete interest from Spurs in signing Wissa this summer.

Thomas Frank recently left Brentford to become Tottenham manager, and had been keen to raid his former club for Bryan Mbeumo, who prefers a move to Manchester United.

Now, however, Frank could also try bringing Wissa with him to his new club, with early discussions taking place.

“Talks have started,” one source told us, adding that Spurs have “prioritised” Wissa to strengthen their attack.

However, other well-connected sources also claim that THFC are likely to face competition for Wissa, even if nothing is that advanced for the moment.

The other interested clubs are Manchester United and Newcastle, who are both exploring the market for opportunities up front.

Wissa finished last season with 20 goals and four assists in all competitions, so could be an upgrade on the likes of Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee at Old Trafford.

Newcastle, meanwhile, will likely stick with Alexander Isak as their first choice up front, but want Wissa to add depth, with the 28-year-old also capable of playing out wide.

Sources also informed CaughtOffside that Spurs’ interest in Wissa comes amid major doubts over Richarlison’s future.

The Brazil international has been a little underwhelming during his time in north London, and his departure is considered likely this summer.

Meanwhile, it will be interesting to see how Wissa fits in alongside Dominic Solanke, another recent striker signing for Tottenham who’s perhaps been slightly underwhelming, though his future is surely not in doubt just yet.
