Manchester United look to be adding a “fantastic player” to their squad with their transfer deal for Brentford right winger Bryan Mbeumo.

That’s the view of Tottenham Hotspur manager Thomas Frank, who managed Mbeumo at his former club Brentford, and helped get the best out of the Cameroon international.

Frank had nothing but good things to say about Mbeumo as he responded to questions about the player’s seemingly imminent move to Old Trafford.

United and Brentford finally reached an agreement over Mbeumo’s fee yesterday, as reported by the Athletic, and Frank feels his former player is getting a “deserved” big move…

Frank said: “Bryan is of course a fantastic player. I’ve been with him for five years and I think he deserved a move, wherever he goes. And as a player I wish him all the best when you’ve been with a player for so long.”

Tottenham also wanted to sign Bryan Mbeumo this summer

The Frank connection seemingly meant that Spurs were also keen on signing Mbeumo this summer.

A report from the Mirror claimed Tottenham were also in the race for Mbeumo, but it never worked out, with David Ornstein notably posting yesterday that the 25-year-old only ever wanted the move to Old Trafford.

Mbeumo could have been a superb addition to Frank’s squad, but it now looks like he’s close to getting his big move to United.

It hasn’t been the easiest transfer window for United so far, with the Mbeumo saga dragging on and taking some time before finally being resolved.
