Virgil van Dijk reacts as Arne Slot shakes hands with Marc Guehi

Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk seemed to have a hint of a smirk on his face as he watched Arne Slot shaking hands with Marc Guehi before the Community Shield.

The Reds have been strongly linked with Guehi by the Telegraph and others throughout the summer, but he’s yet to leave Crystal Palace.

The England international had a brief exchange with Liverpool boss Slot before today’s big game at Wembley, though, and it seems Van Dijk was aware that it was a move that might attract some attention.

Guehi looks like he’d be a fine signing for Liverpool or other top clubs after his impressive form during his time at Selhurst Park.

LFC also have a bit of a shortage of depth in central defence after selling Jarell Quansah to Bayer Leverkusen this summer, with Joe Gomez a little injury prone.

Marc Guehi to join host of new Liverpool signings?

Liverpool have had a busy summer strengthening in a variety of positions, with two new full-backs coming in in the form of Jeremie Frimpong and Milos Kerkez.

There has also been a lot of change in attack, with Hugo Ekitike and Florian Wirtz both joining, while Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez have been sold.

It remains to be seen if Guehi will now be a priority for Liverpool, but it makes sense as one to watch, with the 25-year-old now in the final year of his Palace contract.

That could put pressure on the Eagles to cash in on Guehi now, or else risk losing him on a free transfer next summer.

Coincidentally, that’s when Liverpool could also lose a key defender in Ibrahima Konate, who is also in the final year of his current contract.
