Newcastle United still trying for Anthony Elanga transfer

Newcastle United are understood to be trying again for the potential transfer of Nottingham Forest winger Anthony Elanga.

The Sweden international has performed well at Forest and they’ve already rejected an opening offer of £45m for him this summer, as first reported by the Athletic’s David Ornstein.

However, sources with a close understanding of the situation have informed CaughtOffside that Newcastle have maintained contacts over Elanga.

Multiple sources have confirmed that Newcastle are keen to try again for Elanga, who could cost as much as £60m.

At the same time, the Magpies are also keeping their options open with an interest in Brighton forward Joao Pedro, CaughtOffside understands.

Newcastle are clearly prioritising attacking signings this summer, but will they end up signing Elanga or Pedro?

It seems NUFC are still working on a number of different options, with Elanga looking like the priority, but with Pedro also in their sights.

One issue is that Forest are determined to keep Elanga, whereas it has seemed clear for some time that Brighton would be open to selling Pedro for the right price.
