Hugo Ekitike made it 1-0 to Liverpool against Crystal Palace after just four minutes of today’s Community Shield clash at Wembley.
The French forward joined the Reds from Eintracht Frankfurt this summer, and today is his first competitive game for the club.
It turns out it’s been a dream start for Ekitike, as well as for fellow summer arrival Florian Wirtz, who got the assist for this opener against Palace.

Ekitike will no doubt be delighted to make this fast start to life at Liverpool, who will be eager to start the new season with a piece of silverware.
Hugo Ekitike makes an instant impact at Liverpool
Ekitike finished last season with 22 goals and 11 assists for Eintracht Frankfurt, and it seems like he’s very much continuing in that fashion as we start the new campaign.
It could be that Ekitike’s strike will send LFC on their way to an early trophy for the 2025/26 season, as they look to build on the success they enjoyed last season.
Arne Slot’s side won the Premier League title and will now be aiming to retain that crown and go even further in other competitions such as the Champions League.
A signing like Ekitike looks like a major statement by Liverpool, who have also revamped their squad with the signings of Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong and Milos Kerkez.
