Man United boss Ruben Amorim hints at resignation after Grimsby defeat

Manchester United suffered a memorable defeat against League Two side Grimsby Town.

The Red Devils faced them in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night and surprisingly went out against the lower league side on penalties.

This is the first ever that United have been knocked out in a cup competition by a fourth-tier team.

The result follows poor results in the Premier League against Arsenal and Fulham.

Ruben Amorim’s side suffered an opening day defeat against Arsenal at Old Trafford while away to Fulham, they failed to earn their first win of the season after a 1-1 draw at Craven Cottage.

Ruben Amorim is under severe pressure at Man United

With just three games into the new season, criticism has started over the player and the manager, completely shifting the mood at the club which at one stage this summer was sky high due to the signings of Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko.

Following the defeat against Grimsby, Amorim raised doubts over his future at Man United.

He told ITV, as reported by The Athletic:

“I think the players spoke really loudly about what they want today. Something has to change, and you’re not going to change 22 players again. It’s hard to face everything. We move to the next game, then we have time to decide things.”

The fact that he says that something has to change and you cannot change the players shows that he could be taking about his position as the manager of the club.

Since arriving from Sporting, the Portuguese manager has been unable to make an impact at the club.
