According to The Sun, Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi is now drawing attention from European giants Real Madrid and Barcelona following the dramatic collapse of his Deadline Day move to Liverpool.

The Reds had been in advanced talks with Palace over a £35 million deal for the 25-year-old defender.

However, Eagles boss Oliver Glasner was adamant that his skipper could not be sold without a suitable replacement lined up.

Palace’s inability to secure cover ultimately forced the transfer to break down, leaving Guehi at Selhurst Park, at least for now.

Marc Guehi will become a free agent next year

Guehi’s situation is further complicated by his contract status. With his current deal set to expire in the summer of 2026, the England international will be free to negotiate with foreign clubs from January 1, provided no new extension is agreed with Palace.

This means he could sign a pre-contract agreement while continuing to play out the season in South London before completing a high-profile switch abroad next summer.

Both Barcelona and Real Madrid are closely monitoring developments. Barcelona, who recently lost Inigo Martinez to Al-Nassr, are keen to strengthen their defensive options with a player who combines Premier League pedigree with international experience.

Real Madrid are also in the market for a new centre-back as they look to build long-term depth in defense and have identified Guehi as a strong candidate.

Liverpool, meanwhile, may yet revisit their interest in the England international. With Ibrahima Konate entering the final year of his contract next summer, there is speculation that manager Arne Slot could push for Guehi once more, especially if he becomes available on a free transfer.

Despite the turbulence of Deadline Day, Guehi handled the situation with professionalism, continuing to lead Palace as captain.
